Solar Decathlon is a two year project hosted by the US Department of Energy to promote solar technology. The DOE selected twenty teams to compete in Solar Decathlon 2013 which will be held in Orange County, CA (see brochure for Solar Decathlon 2013 [PDF 1.6MB]). During the week-long competition, the 1,000 sq.ft homes will be open to the public and evaluated on the following ten criteria:

  • Architecture
  • Market Appeal
  • Engineering
  • Communications
  • Affordability
  • Comfort Zone
  • Hot Water
  • Appliances
  • Home Entertainment
  • Energy Balance

Solar Decathlon began in 2002 as a US competition and has since expanded to a global competition with millions of media impressions. This year, we look forward to competing with teams from the Czech Republic, Austria, as well as many from the US. For more information, please visit solardecathlon.gov.
